Providing hubs for young people and the community

As an organisation HYPE are committed to the preservation of communities and utilising empty spaces, we have always identified disused venues in local communities which with some renovation can be utilised as a hub for young people and local people within the local area.

The Little T Room is Birkenhead is an example of the work HYPE undertake in disused properties, when we became involved in a disused former travel operator office on Grange Road West in the centre of Birkenhead, it was in no state to be used but with some imagination and a vision with hard work from the young people involved with HYPE we were able to turn the Little T Room into a vibrant and exciting venue for young people in the area.

Taking pride in community ownership

We have utilised a number of venues across Wirral using the philosophy that these buildings just need the local community and young people to take pride and ownership in them as community assets, The Little T Room is one of a portfolio of venues including Fleetcroft Rd in Woodchurch and Claughton Rd in Birkenhead that have benefitted from the HYPE touch and become hubs for local young people.

As an organisation we are always looking for new areas of opportunity where we can work with young people and establish a base within local communities and if we can identify viable venues where we can utilise disused buildings then we are always keen to do so, keep a look out for new and exciting community projects for local and young people and see the difference young people can make in reusing old properties in your community.

Little T Room Birkenhead

This venture between HYPE & LTR provides an after school club, Youth Club, Saturday Club and Holiday clubs to young people in the central Birkenhead area.

The After School club is open for 5-8 year olds, Youth clubs 8-14 year olds as well as the Saturday club being open for 6-14 year olds. These clubs have developed well and continue to offer a safe & fun environment for young people to enjoy themselves, develop new skills and make new friends.

HYPE in Rock Ferry

We have been working in partnership with The Vikes – established in 1965 as The Vikings Boys Club – since January 2013.

The Vikes is a community centre and youth club offering activities for all ages in Rock Ferry. HYPE runs youth clubs on Wednesdays and Fridays at the centre, for 6-11 year-olds and also for 11-16-year-olds, with over 400 young people attending every month.

Bidston & Wooodchurch

HYPE runs youth clubs in Woodchurch on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a Street Dance class with a qualified teacher on Mondays. We have also run various successful projects in the area in a bid to give the young people of Woodchurch somewhere to go and something to do in the evenings and at the weekends.

In Bidston we run a youth club at Gautby Road Community Centre on Monday nights for 7-to-13-year-olds and are in partnership with Cover Drive Community Centre, Beechwood Housing Association and Beechwood Development Trust.
