Birkenhead’s ‘Park Inner Park’

HYPE’s most successful ‘green-space’ redevelopment project based within the heart of Birkenhead Park.

Birkenhead Park was one of the first purpose-built public parks, built by the borough authorities for the people of Birkenhead and surrounding areas to enjoy. HYPE’s ‘Park Inner Park’ is a secure, fenced area of parkland that is located on the Park Road East side, near to the British Legion building.

HYPE acquired the management of the space 18 months ago, and since then has transformed it into a multi-functional community space for local young people. We have constructed an outdoor classroom, art display wall, nature trail with over 850(!) different plants, and a mini BMX pump track that would not have been possible without the support of our summer volunteers from NCS!

HYPE’s vision is to utilise this space to diversify education, teaching young people about bio diversity and helping to encourage healthy habits and lifestyles. The health and wellness benefits of a well-managed community ‘green space’ are second to none, and we are looking to run community gardening initiatives beginning over the next few months. Our ‘Park Inner Park’ also serves as a fantastic venue for youth clubs and sporting events- we even ran our own community dog show this past Summer!

If you are a local organisation/ school group that would like to learn more about HYPE’s ‘Park Inner Park’ or even visit for yourselves, please get in touch via our contact email:

Woodchurch plot & ‘GROW’ Project

Exciting things are happening at HYPE!

Just a few months ago we received confirmation from the Woodchurch Community Centre that we will be taking on their garden space and helping to redevelop it for the benefit of the youth and community groups based at the Centre.

We are partnering with Magenta Housing to deliver the redevelopment project, our initial plans are to construct an outdoor workspace and allotment area which will enable the Centre to expand the range of ‘healthy lifestyles’ workshops and programmes they can offer.

HYPE also manage another ‘green space’ based on the other side of the Woodchurch Estate. This disused garden space backs on to the gardens of local houses, and HYPE plan to redesign the space as a welcoming community garden for residents to use. This Summer, HYPE staff have cleared the area ready for further work over the Winter months..
